This is Kyle Morrisseau:
Kyle was 17 years old when he was initially reported missing from Thunder Bay, Ontario on October 30th, 2009. He was last seen alive by peers who shared a bottle of whiskey with him on the banks of the McIntyre River in Thunder Bay on October 26th of that year. Tragically, his body would be pulled from the same river on November 10th, 2009.
Authorities are unable to explain how Kyle ended up in the water. His family believes he may have come to harm as they noted bruising on his body during identification. Kyle was among 7 other youth from remote Indigenous communities who were sent to Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School in Thunder Bay who had tragic endings and resulted in an inquest into their deaths. They are known collectively as "the 7 fallen feathers." Unfortunately, many communities like Kyle's lack the population and resources to run their own local schools. Kyle is the 3rd child from the Keewaywin Community to die after being sent to school in Thunder Bay.
Kyle is from a long line of artists and his grandfather is renowned Indigenous artist Norval Morrisseau who is known as the "Picasso of the North." Kyle was also studying painting and living with his father when he first moved to Thunder Bay. By his second year he was living alone in a boarding house and struggling with chemical dependency. Kyle's cause of death was determined to be drowning with alcohol as a factor. May his memory be a blessing and may his family and community receive justice.
If you have any information regarding the death of Kyle Morrisseau, you are encouraged to contact the Thunder Bay Police Service at 1-807-684-1200.
