This is Tyra Maria Garcia:
Tyra was 15 years old when she initially disappeared from Ventura, California on May 27th, 1985. She was last seen leaving her residence with intentions of visiting a friend's nearby apartment. Tyra is known to have attended a party later that evening at the "Loops" Motel which is no longer in business. She was seen speaking to two unknown adult men and was sighted later at a 7-11 gas station with them. This is the last time Tyra was seen alive.
Tyra's body was found on the side of a cliff in an orange grove on Stockton Road in Moorpark about a week later. She had been bound and wrapped in a blanket and it is believed she had been dead several weeks to a couple of months before farm workers located her. It was Tyra's mother who called and encouraged officers to compare the body to her daughter.
Tyra's mother was told she had to wait 48 hours before reporting her daughter missing. Tyra had history of running away from home and trouble at school, so authorities assumed it was just her usual behavior. Their evidence collection was also lacking, so it's unclear if there were chemicals in Tyra's system when she died. Though it is being investigated as a homicide police say it is possible she died accidentally and was abandoned by people who thought they may be held responsible. Due to a clerical error, Tyra's case was closed after 3 days due to some agencies listing her cause of death as "suicide" despite it being officially stated as a homicide. Tyra's sister worked to have her case reopened in 2021 and Tyra's murder remains unsolved.
