There are no photos publicly available of Mavis Josephine McKay.
Mavis was 32 years old when her body was found floating face-down in an irrigation canal west of Toppenish, Washington, at about 8:00am on the morning of August 13th, 1957. She had only been dead a matter of a few hours. The location was less than a mile from the local casino and near Elmwood Cemetery. It was a Cemetery employee that found her. Her cause of death was later determined to be a broken neck. An autopsy found additional bruising and scraping on the back of her legs as well as a severe bruise on top of her head. She was found nude besides a single gold earring and her clothing was never recovered.
Several mean were questioned in connection with this case but produced no new leads. Mavis' daughter Mildred is a great-grandmother now and is still desperate to find out who killed her mother when she was just a child. Family and community remain mum about further details. May Mavis' memory be a blessing and may her family and community receive justice.
